It should not be a revolutionary concept that people of all sizes want activewear and lounge pieces. Whether you want to feel supported during a yoga class or feel comfortable while you work from home, many brands have finally seen that a size range of S-L is just not cutting it. While some retailers have expanded their offerings up to a size 24, others have seen the value in creating plus size activewear above a 3X.
This list details brands that offer activewear in sizes large than a 3X. Some are new to the plus size extended size game - looking at you Old Navy. Others such as Universal Standard and Superfit Hero have built true size inclusion into the fabric of their brand identity.
With a size range of L to 7XL, there's no doubt that Superfit Hero offers a range of plus size activewear that is truly out of this world. Their size 7XL is equivalent to a size 40-42 fitting up to a 90 inch hip and we LOVE to see it! With a focus on sustainability, Superfit Hero keeps it fairly simple in design - classic sold color-ways in leggings, bras, tops and most recently flare workout pants.
Livi Active by Lane Bryant
Lane Bryant is one of the oldest retailers catering to the plus size community; in fact, they coined the term plus size back in the 1920s. It's no surprise that Lane Bryant was one of the first retailers to offer plus size activewear up to a size 28. In March 2021, they expanded their line of activewear up to a size 38/40. From lounge jumpsuits to high impact sports bras, you can expect to find everything you need for work or play at Livi Active by Lane Bryant.
Universal Standard does not just cater to the plus size community. They make clothing in sizes 00-40 making this one of the largest size ranges on the market. While you will not find compression sports bras in Universal Standard's offerings, you will find comfy athleisure styles such as bodysuits, zip-up hoodies and joggers in a muted earth tone shades.
Girlfriend Collective is an activewear line with a strong focus on sustainability. From eco-friendly packaging to old water bottles turned into clothes, these pieces not only look good on you, they are Mother Earth approved. Their size range extends to a 6XL which is an equivalent to a 30-32 when compared to other brand's size charts.
With 20 years of fit under their belt, Torrid has the experience and know-how in the plus size industry to deliver plus size activewear up to a size 30 or 6X. From from florals to galaxy prints, Torrid's leggings, bras and tops will definitely have you standing out in the cardio room.
Launched in late August 2021, Old Navy's BODEQUALITY campaign expanded every single Old Navy women's clothing item up to a size 30 online and size 28 in stores. This expansion includes Old Navy's activewear. In bright shades, Old Navy's plus size active and lounge apparel is a budget-friendly option.
Functional workout and loungewear finds a home at Beyond Yoga. From cozy lounge skirts and dresses to muscle tanks and biker shorts, this woman-owned brand focuses on comfort and luxury. The brand initially expanded up to a 3X and now includes up to a 4X. Let's hope they continue to expand their range.
Plus size shoppers know all about the sting of being left out of celebrity clothing collaborations. Reebox x Cardi B is one collection committed to size inclusion offering up to 4X in all styles. In addition, Reebok also offers staple pieces in this same range as well as collaborations with Amazon's Core10 brand.
Call it a bullseye - Target's plus size activewear offers a wide range of styles up to a 4X. Though inventory varies by stores, the sheer amount of Target stores makes this range budget-friendly and accessible.
Kate Hudson's Fabletics is a brand dedicated to changing the activewear landscape. From collaboration collections with Liza Koshy to Maddie Ziegler, they keep it modern, trendy and still comfortable and functional. Their current plus size range goes up to a 4X which on their size chart lists the equivalent as a 22/24. From personal experience, the high stretch fabrics can work for up to a 26 and their return process makes it easy to try different styles.
All day I dreamt about adidas selling plus sizes in their Ivy Park x adidas items and that dream become a reality. While the fit has shown to be inconsistent across releases and items, there are now always items available up to a 4X. You can find this size range included in adidas's other plus size items as well.
